KUALA LUMPUR: Yesterday, second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah announced an ingenious scheme to divide the price for RON95 fuel into three tiers according to a driver’s income.
“Those earning below RM5,000 per month will receive full subsidy while those earning between RM5,000 and RM10,000 will get a partial subsidy,” he told reporters, “those earning over RM10,000 a month should ask their drivers to fill up their BMWs for them to also get full subsidy.”
“We are still deciding how we show proof of your income at petrol stations, and how we train the staff there to audit you. One idea is for everyone to get tattoos with your monthly salary which surely people won’t find intrusive. There hopefully wont be a black market in subsidised petrol fleet cards, or gangs of poor people waiting at petrol stations filling up rich people’s cars for a fee. However we do this, it has to serve the people!”
“Sounds like this complicated income assessing government devised, three tier petrol pricing system to be implemented by petrol station attendants is just what the country needs!” said nobody.
