SHAH ALAM: Today, right Wing Malay NGO Perkasa, demanded the PM explain why Chinese Malaysian Billionaire Taek Jho Low was selected to siphon money out of the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund when many qualified Bumiputeras were more than capable of doing the same job.
“Any number of young well-connected Malays could have sipped Soya Cincau with Paris Hilton, funded some Hollywood movies, and extracted US$700million out of a dodgy Middle Eastern joint venture instead of Jho Low!” said an infuriated Perkasa spokesman, “Why does he get to have all the fun?”
“The government is supposed to give bumis more economic participation, why can’t it apply to suspiciously hiding sovereign wealth in the Caymans?” said another Perkasa leader, “Where is the NEP when we really need it?”
A spokesman for the Prime Minister’s office said Perkasa’s complaints were unfounded, explaining there is evidence a small number of elite Malays discovered a new source of ‘family inherited wealth’ coincidentally around the time Jho Low’s Good Star company banked a US$700million 1MDB payment into its Swiss bank account.
A PMO source said, “With respect to 1MDB, bumiputera participation is well within acceptable government KPIs for sovereign wealth squandering.”
