PENANG: Today local film director, Jamil Mohd Alias admitted his attempt to adapt Malaysian traditional kampung game, congkak into a full length action film had run into difficulties.
“The problem is like the Tetris movie producers discovered, the story we conceived for congkak is so huge, we can’t cut it down into a two hour film,” the director explained on social media, “we need a whole first movie just to set up the board, then there are two planned sequels for game play and the trilogy finale.”

Assuming Jamil’s film trilogy is a commercial success, it is hoped congkak will join planned movies based on batu seremban, gasing and sepak takraw in a kampung game cinematic universe.
