NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been selected to receive the Unesco ‘Lead while boss can’t attend’ award in conjunction with his attendance at the 71st United Nations General Assembly, Bernama revealed today.
“The ‘Lead while boss can’t attend’ award is given in recognition of Zahid’s tireless efforts in keeping up diplomatic appearances while the Department Of Justice’s kleptocracy probe makes it awkward for the PM to attend the UN General Assembly like he normally does,” said a representative of Unesco’s ‘Leadership by Substitution’ subcommittee.
“The Deputy PM impressed Unesco with his ability to juggle leading Malaysia’s UN delegation while reminding local reporters his attendance instead of the PM’s is ‘nothing out of the ordinary,’ “ a Foreign Ministry source confirmed.
“While our DPM deserves his award, spare a thought for the Prime Minister. He has to spend this week pretending he has more important domestic business to attend to, like looking at honey farms, while quietly missing Madison Avenue!”
